  • Rain or shine; family friendly…. but no dogs in the house.

Donations are welcome, with proceeds benefiting keepWVwild.org, a grassroots advocacy organization formed to end the devastating practice of mountain top removal (MTR). keepWVwild.org aims to stop the destruction of West Virginia’s Appalachian Mountains, its majestic rivers and the communities who depend on these natural resources for survival.

Fishing: Trout fishing in the Savage River or North Branch of the Potomac River.  A Maryland fishing license covers both rivers and can be purchased here: www.dnr.state.md.us/service/license.asp  The North Branch is closest to our camp and has sections for catch and release (artificial lures only) as well as areas where you can keep fish (live bait allowed).  Wading or fishing from the river bank.  Or you can fish for walleye, trout or bass in the Jennings Randolf Lake www.nab.usace.army.mil/recreation/jenran/recinfo.htm#fish

–Boating: Canoe the North Branch of the Potomac.  You’ll need two vehicles or to call someone to pick you up at the end of your float. Or canoe, kayak or boat on the Jennings Randolf Lake en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennings_Randolph_Lake with a boat launch less than 10 minutes away.  Or canoe/kayak around the Savage Reservoir, about 15 minutes away www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/western/savageriver.asp

–Swimming: You can wade in the Potomac River, or you can hit Shaw Beach at Jennings Randolf Lake, less than 10 minutes away.

–Hiking/Biking: Plenty of walking, hiking and biking to do around our camp and along the Potomac River or inside the Savage Forest www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/western/savageriver.asp

–What to bring:  Tent and tarp, sleeping bags, pillows, supplemental food and beverages.  Ice.  Bug dope, sunscreen, sunglasses, camp chairs.  Acoustic instruments and hand drums.

–What not to bring: Plastic bottles of water (We can fill your water jugs at the camp).

–Directions: Most effective method is to search “Barnum Road, Keyser WV” in Google Maps or Waze. Travel about 1/3 mile down the hill and turn right at the cluster of several mailboxes (you’ll see a road sign indicating Maple Forest Road).  This is a dirt access road, go slow.  Our house is the first driveway on the left. The camping area is about 100 yards past the driveway on the left.
